Michigan-based Universal Forest Products, Inc. has announced plans to shut down its operations in Elkhart and Westville. The closings are part of the company's plan to adjust to a downturn in the housing market. The company expects to sell the Indiana facilities, as well as those in Canada, Mississippi and North Carolina. Some operations will be consolidated into the company's location in Granger.
