Roche plans 300 transfers
Shifting jobs to Germany will result in relocations from Indy, layoffs
May 6, 2008. Roche Diagnostics, one of Indiana's largest life-sciences employers, will transfer 300 positions, or about 11 percent of its local work force, from Indianapolis to Germany over the next three years.

The company told employees of the news Monday afternoon at the huge Northeastside campus, where about 2,800 people work.

Roche called the upcoming transfer of jobs a "strategic, yet difficult" way to increase productivity and efficiency.

The news comes less than two months after Roche said it would expand its local presence, hiring 360 employees and transferring about 440 here in the process. Roche said it still plans to go ahead with that expansion.
